The Central government’s women-centric schemes, in partnership with state governments, are significantly improving the lives of women in both rural and urban areas. In Gujarat’s Aravalli district, women are benefiting from these schemes, engaging in activities like agricultural ventures and local businesses to enhance their incomes. Various initiatives such as the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM), Tribal Area Sub-Plan, and MNREGA have provided training and financial support to many rural women, fostering self-reliance.
In villages like Bathiwada and Valuna in Meghraj taluka, women have received training in kite making and are now earning from this skill. Additionally, organic farming practices have been reintroduced in Valuna village, empowering women through projects like Sahas Kisan Atma Project Mandal. Various self-help groups are thriving, with activities ranging from manufacturing traditional pickles to running local businesses. The success of these initiatives is evident in the approximately 8000 women self-help groups in Aravalli, with around 5000 actively participating.
The government, through the District Rural Development Agency and taluka officials, organizes training camps for these women, further supporting their economic independence. This empowerment of rural women in Gujarat showcases a transformative shift, with many now economically self-sufficient and contributing to their families’ well-being through their hard work and dedication.
