Co-operation Minister, Babasaheb Patil, addressed the Legislative Assembly, highlighting the government’s concern over the rise in illegal moneylending cases in Maharashtra. Since 2022, moneylenders in the state have disbursed loans amounting to Rs 400 crore, while formal banks have distributed Rs 12,415 crore.
During a discussion initiated by Sulabha Khodke on moneylending loans in Amravati district, Minister Patil shared insights into the state’s moneylending data. Various members, including Vijay Wadettiwar and Nana Patole, participated in the debate, expressing concerns about farmers resorting to moneylenders due to challenges in accessing formal banking loans.
Responding to the allegations, Minister Patil revealed that the state has received 343 complaints related to illegal moneylending, with investigations confirming illegal practices in 34 cases. FIRs have been filed in all 34 cases, leading to the booking of 48 individuals. The government reiterated its commitment to assisting farmers in obtaining credit and pledged to take strict action against illegal moneylenders operating outside the regulated system.
