Grief-stricken families are mourning the deaths of 28-year-old Sanyam Vij and 25-year-old Surajbhan Singh, among the 18 victims of a fire in Lucknow’s Aliganj area. Sanyam Vij’s uncle, Gaurav, shared the family’s shock upon learning about the incident and their immediate journey to Lucknow upon receiving the news. Sanyam, who worked in animation, was expected home to mourn his grandmother’s passing.
Concerns about safety lapses in the building have been raised by a relative, highlighting alleged administrative negligence. Surajbhan Singh’s brother, Sudhir, expressed the family’s struggle to comprehend the circumstances of the tragedy, mentioning a suspected short circuit as the cause. Surajbhan was employed at an animation company.
Authorities have identified 15 of the 18 victims, including residents of Lucknow and one individual from South 24 Parganas in West Bengal. Most victims were aged between 20 and 24. Two injured individuals are receiving treatment at King George’s Medical University. An FIR has been filed against the building owners and others, with arrests made in connection to the incident.
