Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel conducted a statewide review meeting with district collectors to evaluate fuel availability following rumors of shortages that triggered panic buying in various cities. The meeting, held via video conference from Gandhinagar, assessed the current stock levels of petrol, diesel, and LPG across all districts. A comprehensive evaluation revealed that there are ample supplies of LPG, PNG, and automotive fuels in the state.
The review highlighted a temporary increase in fuel sales in certain areas due to unverified rumors. Despite this, the state government assured that timely replenishment of supplies is being maintained, and the distribution system remains stable. The Chief Minister instructed all district collectors to ensure continuous monitoring and coordination to prevent any disruptions in the supply of essential fuels, ensuring citizens face no inconvenience.
The recent surge in demand came after widespread rumors caused long queues at petrol pumps in cities like Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, and Vadodara, leading to panic buying and traffic disturbances. Officials reiterated that there is no shortage of petrol or diesel in the state, with sufficient stock available at depots and retail outlets. Continuous reviews of fuel availability are being conducted, with the Chief Minister personally overseeing the situation to ensure a smooth supply chain.
Authorities are promptly addressing any localized supply issues arising from logistical or technical factors, with oil companies increasing supply and maintaining buffer stocks to meet demand. The Chief Minister urged citizens to refrain from panic buying, emphasizing that Gujarat has an adequate stock of petrol, diesel, and gas. People were also advised to ignore rumors about fuel shortages and avoid unnecessary purchases.
