Gujarat Giants’ leg-spin bowling all-rounder, Georgia Wareham, acknowledged that her team still has areas to enhance despite recent strong performances in the 2026 Women’s Premier League (WPL). Wareham highlighted that both the batting and bowling units have not yet showcased their best game. She mentioned that they have started well in the powerplay with the bat but need to finish their innings stronger. Similarly, their bowling has seen some lapses towards the end of innings, indicating room for improvement across all aspects of their game.
Ahead of the clash against Mumbai Indians, Wareham shared insights on their team strategy. She mentioned that the team’s performance so far has not reached its peak, allowing them the freedom to bat without a set total in mind. This flexibility has also translated into effective defensive plays with the ball. The upcoming match will determine the playoff spot, adding pressure on both teams to deliver their best.
In a recent interview, Wareham also unveiled a new nickname for Sophie Devine, a key player known for her crucial performances in tight situations. Referring to Devine as “Sophie De-clutch,” Wareham praised her teammate’s bowling prowess, especially in critical moments. Despite Devine’s modesty about her achievements, the team affectionately uses the nickname to recognize her exceptional skills.
Reflecting on the upcoming game in Vadodara, Wareham emphasized the importance of accuracy in bowling. She highlighted the significance of hitting the stumps consistently, particularly considering the variable bounce and spin conditions. Wareham stressed that focusing on hitting the stumps has been crucial for their bowling unit, leading to more dismissals and lower strike rates.
