The Gujarat government has decided to offer a 20% reservation to ex-Agniveers in direct recruitment for various Class-3 positions in the state police, State Reserve Police Force (SRP), jail, and forest departments. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel announced that ex-Agniveers will be eligible for this reservation in the armed wing of the state police force, SRP, jail department, and forest department. Additionally, these individuals will be exempt from the physical efficiency test required for recruitment and will receive up to a three-year relaxation in the upper age limit.
In a move to support former Agniveers transitioning into government service, the Chief Minister has also granted a relaxation of up to five years in the upper age limit for the first batch of the Agniveer Scheme participants. The benefits of reservation and age relaxation will extend to recruitment for various positions such as Armed Police Sub-Inspector, Armed Police Constable, SRP Platoon Commander, Police Constable, Jailer Group-2, Jail Guard, Forest Guard Class-3, and Forest Conservator Class-3.
These decisions are expected to create a dedicated recruitment pathway for ex-Agniveers seeking employment in state government services, covering a wide range of uniformed and field service posts in the police, SRP, jail, and forest departments. The Agnipath Scheme, initiated by the Union government in 2022, recruits young individuals into the armed forces as “Agniveers” for a four-year tenure, including training. Participants may be selected for permanent enrollment based on performance and organizational needs, while others receive a one-time ‘Seva Nidhi’ package and skill certification upon exit.
