The Gujarat government has launched a “Universal Affidavit” that citizens can use across all government offices and service centers. This initiative aims to simplify the process of applying for public services, certificates, and government schemes by eliminating the need for different affidavit formats. The decision, announced by the Law Department, is part of an administrative reform to enhance access to government services and reduce procedural delays.
The Universal Affidavit will be applicable in cases where no specific format is prescribed under existing laws or rules. Previously, citizens had to submit affidavits in various formats depending on the department, causing complexity and delays. Now, a standardized affidavit format will be accepted uniformly throughout Gujarat, streamlining the documentation process.
This reform will also extend to digital platforms, including the Digital Gujarat portal and Jan Seva Kendras. Citizens applying online can now use the same Universal Affidavit format across departments and services. The government clarified that for services not mandating an affidavit, the existing self-declaration system will remain unchanged, ensuring a simplified process for applicants.
Officials have developed the Universal Affidavit format in both Gujarati and English to facilitate ease of use for citizens. The goal is to eliminate procedural hurdles, standardize documentation requirements, and enhance accessibility to government services through a common affidavit format recognized statewide.
