Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, and BJP state president Jagdish Vishwakarma honored Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee on his death anniversary. They remembered him for advocating national integration and opposing Jammu and Kashmir’s special status. Patel highlighted Mukherjee’s commitment to the complete integration of Kashmir with India.
Paying homage to Mukherjee, Patel emphasized the realization of the vision of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ through the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. He praised Mukherjee as a nationalist leader dedicated to national unity. Sanghavi also expressed his respects for Mukherjee, recognizing him as a symbol of undivided India, national self-respect, and public service.
Vishwakarma paid floral tributes to Mukherjee at the BJP’s Narmada district office, acknowledging him as the founder of the Jana Sangh and a prominent nationalist leader. Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, born in Kolkata in 1901, was a renowned academic, barrister, and politician. He founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1951, which later evolved into the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Mukherjee’s legacy includes his opposition to Article 370 and the permit system in Jammu and Kashmir. He was arrested in 1953 for entering the state without a permit and passed away in custody in Srinagar on June 23, 1953, at the age of 51. His death anniversary is commemorated annually by BJP leaders and workers nationwide to honor his political contributions and the Jana Sangh movement.
