Gujarat Minister Arjun Modhwadia recently inspected two vital projects in the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR). One project involves an afforestation initiative aimed at addressing the region’s saline terrain challenges, while the other is a semiconductor plant under construction. These visits underscore the dual focus on industrial development and environmental sustainability in Dholera.
At the afforestation site, Minister Modhwadia, responsible for Forest, Environment, Science, and Technology, assessed a scientific afforestation project. The Forest Department is leading the plantation efforts across 19.5 hectares, with over 10.5 hectares already planted with various indigenous tree species. Officials briefed the Minister on the innovative “Drum Method” used to combat Dholera’s saline soil conditions and water scarcity.
The “Drum Method” involves isolating plant roots from saline soil using specialized drums and employing techniques to retain moisture for saplings. This approach has significantly boosted the survival rate of plantations to between 94 and 97 percent, surpassing conventional afforestation projects. The plantation program encompasses more than 17 native species, contributing to Dholera’s green future.
Minister Modhwadia also visited a semiconductor plant being constructed in Dholera SIR. During the visit, he assessed the progress of civil works and technical infrastructure, holding discussions with the company’s management and engineering teams. He emphasized the significance of the semiconductor plant in advancing India’s digital and electronics sector and its potential to generate local employment opportunities and spur economic growth in the region.
Accompanied by local MLA Kalu Dabhi, Minister Modhwadia reiterated the commitment of officials to completing the semiconductor project within the scheduled timeframe.
