Gujarat’s Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel expressed pride as the Union Cabinet approved the Ahmedabad-Dholera semi-high-speed double-line rail project worth around Rs 20,667 crore. This project, part of the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, will connect Sarkhej in Ahmedabad with Dholera, marking India’s first semi-high-speed corridor developed with indigenous technology. Patel thanked PM Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for this significant development for Gujarat’s infrastructure.
The proposed rail line aims to enhance connectivity between Ahmedabad, the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR), the Dholera airport, and the Lothal National Maritime Heritage Complex. It is expected to serve as a model for future semi-high-speed rail projects across the country, emphasizing the importance of this corridor for Gujarat’s modern infrastructure development.
With a design speed of 220 kmph and an operational speed of 200 kmph, the trains on this route will significantly reduce travel time between Sarkhej and Dholera upon project completion. The corridor, scheduled for completion by 2030-31, is set to benefit around 284 villages and nearly 5 lakh people, while also offering environmental advantages by cutting logistics costs, fuel consumption, and carbon emissions.
