Gujarat’s horticulture sector is experiencing significant growth, fueled by modern farming practices, supportive policies, and farmer involvement. The upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference (VGRC) Kutch–Saurashtra 2026 in Rajkot will showcase the region’s agricultural and horticultural accomplishments. In the 2023–24 period, Gujarat led the nation in okra cultivation area and production, with nearly 93,955 hectares under cultivation yielding 11.68 lakh tonnes.
Saurashtra–Kutch has played a vital role in these achievements, contributing around 15% of Gujarat’s okra cultivation area and 13% of total production. During 2024–25, the region cultivated okra across 14,000 hectares in 12 districts, resulting in an estimated production of almost 1.5 lakh tonnes. Gujarat accounted for 7.66% of India’s total vegetable production in 2024–25, with Saurashtra–Kutch cultivating vegetables over 2,32,584 hectares and producing 47,91,504 metric tonnes.
The state’s horticulture sector, supported by effective policies and initiatives, now covers nearly 20% of the cultivated area, showcasing its increasing importance in the rural economy. Through schemes like the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) and the National Horticulture Mission (NHM), Gujarat’s horticulture department is promoting cluster-based development, post-harvest infrastructure, and capacity-building programs. The upcoming VGRC Kutch–Saurashtra in Rajkot aims to highlight the region’s potential in agricultural advancement and sustainable development.
