Gujarat’s key reservoirs currently hold 72.49% of their total capacity, guaranteeing ample drinking water for the upcoming summer. This increase follows significant and consistent rainfall during this year’s monsoon, surpassing the state’s average by over 128%.

As of March 5, the state’s primary reservoirs contain 6.46 lakh million cubic feet (MCFT) of water, showing a 4.15% rise from the same period last year. Officials credit effective water management led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Water Resources Minister Ishwarsinh Patel for maintaining stable water availability for drinking and irrigation purposes.

The Sardar Sarovar Reservoir, crucial for the state, is over 74% full, holding 2.47 lakh MCFT of water. South Gujarat’s reservoirs lead with over 2.34 lakh MCFT, while Central Gujarat has 65,179 MCFT, North Gujarat 41,842 MCFT, Saurashtra 53,621 MCFT, and Kutch 4,392 MCFT. In total, the state stores 6,46,556 MCFT of water, equivalent to 72.49% of total capacity.
