The 3D projection mapping show at Gujarat’s UNESCO World Heritage Site of Rani Ki Vav has been honored with a Gold Award at the 17th WOW Awards Asia 2026. This recognition highlights the state’s innovative use of immersive audio-visual technology to showcase one of India’s significant heritage monuments.
Located at the 11th-century stepwell in Patan, the project secured the Gold Award in the “Experiential Tech Awards – Achievement in Audio-Visual for an Event” category. The annual awards celebrate excellence in the events and experiential technology sector.
More than 44,209 visitors have already experienced the projection mapping show at Rani Ki Vav as of July 12, indicating a growing public interest since its launch earlier this year. This UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized in 2014, stands out as a prime example of India’s stepwell architecture, drawing numerous domestic and international tourists annually.
To enrich the visitor experience, the state government has installed a permanent advanced 3D projection mapping show and heritage lighting system at the monument. Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the project on March 31, after which the designated agency took charge of its operation and maintenance.
The project was nominated for the WOW Awards Asia 2026 by the implementing agency and clinched the prestigious Gold Award. This accolade acknowledges the project’s effective use of audio-visual technology to present the historical and cultural significance of the heritage site through an immersive visitor experience.
By combining large-scale visual effects with heritage lighting, the projection mapping installation narrates the history and architectural grandeur of Rani Ki Vav. Commissioned by Queen Udayamati in memory of King Bhima I of the Solanki dynasty, this stepwell is renowned for its intricate stone carvings and engineering, making it one of Gujarat’s most popular heritage destinations.
