Gulveer Singh, the national record holder in the 10,000m and 5,000m categories, will be the key figure in the Indian elite group participating in the 18th edition of the World 10K Bengaluru on April 26. This prestigious event, designated as a World Athletics Gold Label Race, offers a total prize pool of USD 210,000, with USD 26,000 reserved for the top male and female finishers. Indian elite runners will vie for top positions, with a prize of Rs 3 lakh for winners and an additional Rs 1 lakh for setting event records.
Gulveer Singh, who recently secured third place at the New York City Half Marathon with a remarkable timing of 59:42, is in excellent form. His exceptional performance in 2025 included victories in both the 10,000m and 5,000m events at the Asian Athletics Championships. Additionally, he set an event record of 1:12:06 at the Tata Steel World 25K Kolkata 2025.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the upcoming race, Gulveer Singh stated, “The TCS World 10K Bengaluru is a highly competitive road race, and I am eager to participate this year. It presents a wonderful opportunity for me to challenge myself on Bengaluru’s roads once again.” The event has also attracted a strong international elite lineup, featuring athletes like Harbert Kibet, Vincent Langat, Gemechu Dida, and Samuel Habte from Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Eritrea, respectively.
Gulveer Singh emphasized the significance of such races, especially in a year focused on major events like the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games. He highlighted the event’s role in inspiring Indian athletes to strive for excellence and encouraging young talents to pursue running.
