Three individuals were injured by shrapnel outside Varanasi’s Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Uttar Pradesh after a PAC jawan accidentally fired gunshots near Gate No. 4B. The incident occurred when the jawan’s carbine discharged unintentionally, causing panic at the scene. However, the police promptly controlled the situation.
The injured victims, identified as Nikki Gupta, Ram Babu, and Vikas Yadav, were swiftly taken to the hospital by the police and temple authorities for treatment. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Gaurav Banswal explained that the carbine slipped from the jawan’s hands, leading to two rounds being fired. Fortunately, the shots hit the ground, but shrapnel hit the three flower-garland vendors nearby, resulting in injuries to their hand, waist, and leg.
DCP Banswal reassured that the injuries were not severe, with all three individuals in stable condition at the hospital. Vikas Yadav, one of the injured vendors, described the incident, stating that the jawan’s carbine discharged while he was at his flower-garland stall. Another injured person, Ram Babu, also shared his account, mentioning shrapnel injuries to his leg and hand caused by the sudden firing of the PAC jawan’s carbine.
