Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow recently disclosed the reason behind her decision to reject filming an intimate scene with co-star Ethan Hawke in the movie ‘Great Expectations’. Paltrow, 53, and Hawke, 55, reminisced about their first encounter almost thirty years after starring together in the 1998 film adaptation of Charles Dickens’ renowned novel. The duo shared that the film’s director, Alfonso Cuaron, proposed a sex scene to Paltrow, which she declined, as reported by ‘People’ magazine.
In a video interview for Vanity Fair, Ethan Hawke recollected Cuaron pitching the love scene to Paltrow. Paltrow’s response was a surprised “Oh, my God,” as she explained Cuaron’s suggestion of a scene involving her character receiving oral sex from Hawke’s character. She expressed concerns about her father’s reaction, stating, “I was like, ‘Oh, my God, my father’s going to have a heart attack’”.
Reflecting on Cuaron’s description of the scene, Hawke mentioned the intricate camera movements and visual effects planned for the intimate moment. Paltrow firmly declined the proposal, emphasizing her discomfort with the idea. She admitted feeling self-conscious early in her career about her family witnessing such scenes, a sentiment she no longer holds today.
Ethan Hawke praised Paltrow for her handling of the situation, describing her as resolute but not confrontational. Paltrow acknowledged her initial reservations, mentioning concerns about the industry’s portrayal of such scenes and their impact on her family. Despite her apprehensions, she appreciated Hawke’s support and understanding during that time.
