Former cricketer and Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh expressed his approval of a Delhi court’s ruling that discharged Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia in the liquor policy case. The court found no evidence of conspiracy, criminal intent, or bribery in the CBI chargesheet against them. Harbhajan Singh, also known as the “Turbanator,” supported the verdict by posting “Satyameva Jayate” on his official social media account.
The court dismissed the allegations due to lack of substantiating evidence on record. Harbhajan Singh, who joined the Rajya Sabha as an AAP nominee, indicated solidarity with the party’s stance that the case was politically motivated. Kejriwal and Sisodia, described as “fiercely honest” by Kejriwal, labeled the case a “political conspiracy” during a media interaction outside the court.
The case revolves around purported irregularities in a former excise policy. The CBI had accused the leaders of involvement in corruption related to the policy’s formulation and execution. However, the trial court found insufficient evidence to support the charges in the CBI’s report.
Political responses varied following the court’s decision. AAP leaders viewed it as a validation, while BJP representatives noted that the legal process might continue, potentially through an appeal. Harbhajan Singh’s public support for AAP reaffirmed his backing of the party leadership post-verdict.
