Bharat Rashtra Samithi’s Deputy Leader in Telangana Assembly, T. Harish Rao, has issued a warning that if paddy procurement is not expedited within two days, he will lead a protest involving thousands of farmers. Rao criticized the state government for its alleged failure in paddy procurement, expressing dissatisfaction with the current situation faced by farmers. He highlighted the government’s shortcomings in ensuring essential supplies like urea and electricity, as well as the distribution of ‘Rythu Bandhu’ benefits.
He emphasized the distress faced by farmers due to the delayed procurement process, comparing the current situation unfavorably to past administrations. Rao questioned the government’s decision to reduce the targeted procurement quantity, raising concerns about potential losses for farmers. He accused the Congress government of shifting blame to the Central government instead of taking responsibility for the procurement challenges.
Rao urged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to take proactive steps to address the farmers’ plight and criticized the lack of ministerial visits to procurement centers. He highlighted instances of farmers facing losses due to stringent requirements imposed by rice millers, leading to significant economic burdens. Rao lamented the delay in procurement operations during the peak season, resulting in paddy stocks being left exposed to the elements.
