Haryana is prioritizing futuristic skill development and technology-based vocational education, focusing on initiatives in artificial intelligence (AI), green technologies, digital skilling, and industry-linked training systems. Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi recently led a review meeting of the Skill Development and Industrial Training (SDIT) Department to discuss reforms aimed at preparing youth for upcoming job opportunities and enhancing the state’s skilled workforce in alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’.
The review concentrated on upgrading Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), introducing AI and emerging technology courses, enhancing the monitoring of training programs, and establishing an industry-oriented skill ecosystem. The state is also working on up-skilling government workforce personnel and expanding courses in AI, renewable energy, and advanced manufacturing to meet future industry demands.
In a significant development, more than 7,000 contractual employees under Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam (HKRNL) have already been up-skilled in soft skills and IT literacy by Haryana Skill Development Mission through Haryana Knowledge Corporation Ltd. The state plans to cover another batch of employees during the current fiscal year. Additionally, efforts are underway to up-skill Group C and Group D employees to boost workplace efficiency and digital readiness, with plans to provide skill training to drivers and peons at headquarters and district levels in the coming weeks.
To address emerging employment trends, Haryana has initiated a comprehensive skill gap study focusing on futuristic technologies and evolving industrial needs. The study, commissioned with Swarna Jayanti Haryana Institute of Fiscal Management, aims to align the state’s training ecosystem with future industry requirements. Under the PM-SETU initiative, Haryana has identified four pilot ITI clusters for industry-led transformation, with plans to cover all 12 clusters allocated by the Directorate General of Training within the next three years, as approved by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.
An industry workshop linked to this initiative is scheduled next month in Gurugram to enhance collaboration between industries and vocational institutions.
