The Special Task Force (STF) of Haryana announced a significant achievement on Thursday with the extradition of gangster Vainket Garg from Georgia. This marks the first extradition from Georgia to India and the 10th deportation accomplished by the STF this year. Garg, hailing from Naraingarh town in Ambala district, was the leader of the Vainket Garg Gang, which consisted of 53 members.
The STF highlighted that the gang, led by Garg, was involved in various criminal activities including murder, targeted killings, attempt to murder, extortion, organized crime, and illegal use of firearms across several regions including Ambala, Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, Panchkula, and Chandigarh. Garg, a proclaimed offender, had a criminal record with 34 cases registered against him in Haryana and Chandigarh.
Before fleeing India, Garg already faced 23 criminal cases. Despite being abroad, he continued to operate his criminal network through associates, resulting in 11 more criminal cases involving serious offenses like murder, extortion, and Arms Act violations. The gang was responsible for significant criminal incidents such as the murder of Bahujan Samaj Party leader Harbilas Singh Rajjumajra in Naraingarh and multiple extortion-related firing incidents in Ambala and Yamunanagar districts.
Investigations by STF Haryana revealed that Garg left India on December 10, 2024, traveling from Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi to the United Arab Emirates before reaching Georgia on January 26, 2025. To facilitate his return, STF Haryana took various legal and international measures, including Look Out Circulars (LOCs), an Interpol Red Corner Notice, and declaring him a proclaimed offender with six open-dated arrest warrants.
The successful extradition was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, the National Central Bureau (NCB), the Embassy of India in Georgia, and the Embassy of India in Kazakhstan.
