Health Minister J P Nadda confirmed India’s commitment to supporting the World Health Organisation (WHO) in enhancing global health outcomes. Nadda expressed gratitude for the WHO Director General’s acknowledgment of India’s health sector progress, citing initiatives like the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission and Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs. He reiterated India’s dedication to strengthening the partnership with WHO for the betterment of global health.
Nadda, attending the 79th World Health Assembly in Geneva, emphasized the theme of “Reshaping Global Health: A Shared Responsibility.” This theme underscores the need for collective efforts in tackling global health challenges. The assembly, gathering health ministers and experts from over 165 countries, aims to reinforce the global commitment to building resilient healthcare systems.
The World Health Assembly, the WHO’s decision-making body, convenes annually in Geneva, Switzerland. It plays a crucial role in setting WHO policies, appointing the Director-General, overseeing financial matters, and approving the program budget. The ongoing 79th session includes strategic roundtable discussions on current and future global health priorities, involving delegates, partner agencies, civil society representatives, and WHO experts.
