Heavy rainfall in Rajasthan has led to flood-like conditions in Makkasar village of Hanumangarh district, with around 20-30 houses submerged and families forced to evacuate. The monsoon rains intensified as the monsoon trough line passed through Bikaner, resulting in widespread rainfall across the state. Residents reported that the rain started at 3:00 a.m. and lasted until 5:30 a.m., causing flooding of homes and streets.
Villagers expressed disappointment, stating that despite assurances following last year’s floods, the administration had not improved the area’s drainage system. They mentioned that more than 30 houses have been submerged this year, a decrease from over 100 houses affected in the previous floods. The authorities had pledged to enhance the drainage system after the last flooding but had not taken concrete actions even after a year.
Residents voiced concerns about the rising water levels, with one estimating that if heavy rainfall persists, up to 200-250 houses could be affected. Meanwhile, water levels in the Ghaggar River have started to rise, prompting the district administration to enhance flood preparedness. District Collector Khushal Yadav oversaw embankment strengthening work in the Tibbi area to prepare for the anticipated increase in water inflow.
Meteorologist Narpat Singh Rathore highlighted the continued activity of the southwest monsoon in Rajasthan for the past three days, with expectations of another three days of activity. Regions like Wagad, Mewar, and Hadoti are forecasted to receive widespread rainfall, including isolated heavy showers and intermittent light to moderate rain in various districts in the upcoming days.
