Nine individuals lost their lives, and 11 others are missing following heavy rainfall in Yongchuan District, Chongqing Municipality, China. The downpour, which began on Saturday night, led to flash floods and geological disasters in the area. Rescue operations are ongoing as authorities continue to respond to the situation.
In a separate incident, seven fatalities were reported in Shimen County, Hunan Province, due to heavy rainfall. Fourteen individuals are still unaccounted for following the severe rainstorm that hit the county. The downpour, starting on Sunday morning, affected 23 townships and districts in the region.
Moreover, severe flooding in Hunan Province has resulted in casualties and property damage. Five individuals were confirmed dead, and 11 are missing in Shimen County due to continuous heavy rainfall. Rescue efforts are in progress to locate the missing individuals.
In another tragic event, Guiding County in Guizhou Province reported four deaths and five missing persons due to heavy rainfall-triggered flooding and landslides. Additional missing persons were identified after further investigation, with search and rescue operations actively taking place.
China’s Ministry of Emergency Management activated a Level-IV disaster relief emergency response for Guizhou Province in response to the severe flooding and geological disasters. The country’s southern and central regions have been experiencing heavy rainfall and flooding in recent days.
