Tamil Nadu and West Bengal are experiencing significant voter participation in the ongoing elections. The Election Commission data reveals that both states are on track to achieve record-breaking voter turnout percentages by 5 PM.
In West Bengal, the polling rate reached 89.93% by 5 PM, surpassing the previous 2021 figures. Similarly, Tamil Nadu witnessed a polling rate of 82.24%, exceeding the previous election’s turnout.
Despite controversies surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) drive before the elections, voter enthusiasm remains high in both states, leading to unprecedented voting percentages.
Polling has been brisk throughout the day in both states. By 3 PM, West Bengal had recorded 78.77% polling, while Tamil Nadu had reached 70%, according to the Election Commission’s data.
In West Bengal, polling commenced at 7 AM for 152 assembly constituencies spread across 16 districts, with long queues forming at polling stations since early morning.
The electoral battle in Tamil Nadu, featuring the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance, the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance, Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), is one of the most fiercely contested elections in recent years.
Voters in both states displayed strong enthusiasm, with large numbers queuing up at polling booths early in the morning to exercise their democratic right.
The election results, scheduled for May 4, will determine the future governments in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
