Himanta Biswa Sarma was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Assam for a second consecutive term, with the BJP-led NDA forming the government in the state for the third straight time. The oath-taking ceremony, held at Khanapara in Guwahati, was administered by Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and other BJP and NDA leaders. Alongside Sarma, five Ministers, including Rameswar Teli, Atul Bora, Charan Boro, and Ajanta Neog, also took oath.
Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and Chief Ministers from 22 NDA-ruled states attended the grand swearing-in ceremony. Notable attendees included religious leaders and prominent industrialists. Sarma, attired in traditional Assamese clothing, received loud cheers from supporters as he took the oath of office. His return to power follows the NDA’s resounding victory in the recent Assembly elections.
This marks Sarma’s second consecutive term as Chief Minister, having first assumed office in 2021. His leadership has led the BJP to make history by securing a third consecutive term in Assam, solidifying the party’s stronghold in the northeastern state. Sarma, who was unanimously elected leader of the BJP and NDA Legislature Party in Assam, met Governor Acharya to stake a claim to form the new government.
