The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal projected that the upcoming Holi festival in India is anticipated to drive business surpassing Rs 80,000 crore this year, marking a growth of about 25% from the previous year’s estimated Rs 60,000 crore. This surge is attributed to the increasing popularity of India-made products following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Vocal for Local” campaign.
The demand for Indian-manufactured products such as herbal gulal, natural colors, pichkaris, and festive items is on the rise, while Chinese goods have witnessed a significant decline since 2021. Markets are bustling with activity as consumers show interest in a variety of items including sweets, dry fruits, clothing, and consumer durables.
CAIT estimates suggest that Delhi alone is expected to witness festive trade crossing Rs 15,000 crore, with markets showcasing a vibrant display of gulal, pichkaris, gujiya garlands, and festive gift assortments. Sweet shops are also experiencing a surge in demand, especially for traditional Holi delicacies like gujiya.
