As the T20 World Cup heads towards its final match between India and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium, the ICC has announced the top performers from the tournament who are in the running for the Player of the Tournament award. Among the eight nominees are India’s Sanju Samson, Will Jacks from England, Sahibzada Farhan from Pakistan, Lungi Ngidi from South Africa, Aiden Markram from South Africa, Rachin Ravindra from New Zealand, Shadley van Schalkwyk from the USA, and Tim Seifert from New Zealand.
Sanju Samson has been showcasing remarkable performances in the T20 World Cup, earning back-to-back Player of the Match titles in India’s recent fixtures. His standout innings include an unbeaten 97* off 50 balls in a crucial Super Eights win against the West Indies and a quick 89 off 42 balls in the semi-final. Throughout four matches, Samson scored 232 runs at an average of 77.33 and a strike rate of 201.73.
Will Jacks of England secured four Player of the Match awards, contributing significantly in crucial Super Eight encounters against Sri Lanka and New Zealand. Jacks, known for his finishing skills, scored 226 runs at a strike rate of 176.56. His standout performance was against Italy, where he rescued England from a tough position, scoring an unbeaten 53 off just 22 balls.
Sahibzada Farhan stood out in Pakistan’s campaign, amassing 383 runs in six innings, setting a record for the most runs in a single Men’s T20 World Cup edition. Farhan also became the first player to hit two centuries in a single edition of the Men’s T20 World Cup, achieving this feat against Sri Lanka and Namibia.
