Four-time former champion Iga Swiatek secured a spot in the women’s singles third round at the French Open with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Sara Bejlek. Despite facing challenges with her serve and committing 38 unforced errors, Swiatek maintained control throughout the match.
During the second round clash, the first set alone lasted 46 minutes, with Swiatek being broken twice. Despite only landing 37 percent of her first serves, the No. 3-seeded Swiatek managed to secure the win, setting up a potential encounter with Jelena Ostapenko.
In the second set, the opening game extended close to 10 minutes, pushing the match past the one-hour mark by the time Swiatek took a 1-0 lead. Despite a few errors, Swiatek broke Bejlek seven times and displayed strong net play, ultimately clinching victory in 1 hour and 31 minutes.
The 24-year-old Swiatek has now reached the third round in all 24 Grand Slam events held this decade, showcasing remarkable consistency. She is set to face either Magda Linette or Jelena Ostapenko, the 2017 Roland Garros champion, in the upcoming round.
