The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall and strong winds in the Nilgiris district on Thursday. This forecast is due to a low-pressure trough extending from south Gujarat to central Kerala, affecting various parts of Tamil Nadu with expected rainfall. The IMD also anticipates isolated rain in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry over the next few days.
The Nilgiris, known for rain-related incidents during the southwest monsoon, is likely to witness intense rain and gusty winds. Additionally, districts along the Western Ghats are expected to receive moderate rainfall and strong winds on Wednesday and Thursday. Authorities have cautioned residents in vulnerable areas, especially those prone to landslides, falling trees, and waterlogging.
The southwest monsoon remains active in southern India, with the prevailing weather system enhancing moisture inflow over the region. This is expected to lead to widespread cloud formation and intermittent showers across several districts. In Chennai, the IMD forecasts generally cloudy skies with the possibility of light rain in some areas, accompanied by moderate daytime temperatures and high humidity levels.
While rainfall activity may persist intermittently in northern and western Tamil Nadu in the upcoming days, heavy rain is not expected outside hilly districts. Fishermen in the Andaman Sea have been warned by the IMD of strong winds up to 55 kmph from July 10 to July 12. They are advised to exercise caution and follow weather bulletins closely during this period.
The IMD has issued a marine weather warning, anticipating rough conditions due to strengthening winds. Fishing activities are advised to be planned accordingly, with the weather department monitoring the situation closely and ready to issue further advisories if needed.
