The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in isolated areas of Coimbatore and the Nilgiris in Tamil Nadu due to multiple weather systems affecting southern India. A trough extending from south Gujarat to Kerala is creating favorable conditions for widespread rainfall in parts of Tamil Nadu, as per the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai. The deep depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal has weakened into a depression and is expected to move west-northwestwards towards the north Odisha coast.
Under the influence of these weather systems, heavy rain with gusty winds is expected in Coimbatore and the Nilgiris on Monday. Other districts along the Western Ghats may experience moderate rainfall in isolated areas with strong winds. Moderate rain accompanied by gusty winds is also anticipated in some districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
The IMD forecasts continued moderate rainfall in the Western Ghats districts in the coming days, while the rest of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry may receive light to moderate showers between July 9 and July 11. Maximum temperatures in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are not expected to change significantly over the next two days, although there may be a slight rise in some areas. Authorities are advising residents in districts prone to heavy rain to stay vigilant for sudden weather changes, strong winds, and potential waterlogging in low-lying areas.
