The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts moderate rainfall in Tamil Nadu’s Western Ghats districts until Thursday. Meanwhile, most parts of the state are anticipated to have dry weather in the upcoming days. A trough along the Tamil Nadu coast is affecting the state’s weather conditions, leading to light rainfall in isolated areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on Sunday.
The Western Ghats districts are set to experience moderate rainfall until Thursday, offering relief to the hill regions while the majority of the state remains dry. Starting from Monday, dry weather is expected to dominate most districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Meteorologists highlight the absence of widespread rainfall in the plains during the current forecast period, with only isolated regions likely to see brief rain spells.
Although some scattered showers are predicted in a few places, the weather department warns of rising daytime temperatures. Maximum temperatures in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry could surge up to 3 degrees Celsius above normal in the next few days, leading to hotter conditions in various parts of the state. In Chennai, partly cloudy skies are expected on Sunday with no rainfall during the day.
The maximum temperature in Chennai may reach around 38 degrees Celsius, creating warm and humid conditions. Residents are advised to limit exposure to the afternoon sun and stay well-hydrated as temperatures rise. Additionally, the IMD cautions fishermen in the Arabian Sea. Strong winds up to 55 kmph are forecasted in parts of the central-east Arabian Sea until Wednesday, urging fishermen to be cautious due to rough weather and gusty winds.
The current forecast aligns with the ongoing southwest monsoon pattern in Tamil Nadu, concentrating rainfall along the Western Ghats while the rest of the state faces dry conditions. The weather department assures continuous monitoring of atmospheric conditions and will issue further advisories if significant forecast changes occur.
