The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted widespread rainfall in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry over the next six days. Moderate showers are expected at isolated places due to a deep depression influencing weather conditions in southern India. The IMD’s latest bulletin states that a deep depression is currently situated over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha and West Bengal coasts.
The system is forecasted to move west-northwestwards in the next three days before heading inland towards North Odisha and North Chhattisgarh. Despite its location well north of Tamil Nadu, the system’s circulation is expected to enhance moisture inflow over the state, creating favorable conditions for rainfall in several districts. Moderate rainfall is expected at isolated places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal from July 5 to July 10.
While widespread heavy rain is not expected at this stage, intermittent showers may bring relief from the prevailing warm and humid conditions in many parts of the state. Residents are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts, especially in districts prone to waterlogging during continuous rainfall. Local authorities are urged to monitor the situation and respond to any weather-related disruptions if necessary.
For Chennai, the weather department has forecasted partly cloudy skies with the possibility of light rain in some parts of the city during the day. Brief spells of rain are expected intermittently, although prolonged rainfall is unlikely. Despite the chance of showers, daytime temperatures in the city are expected to remain high, with a maximum around 37 degrees Celsius, while humidity levels are likely to stay elevated.
The IMD mentioned that weather conditions could change based on the movement and intensity of the deep depression as it progresses inland over eastern India. Updated forecasts will be issued as the system evolves. The anticipated rainfall is expected to bring relief to regions experiencing dry weather and high temperatures recently. However, the public is advised to remain vigilant about changing weather conditions and follow official advisories as they are issued.
