The India Meteorological Department (IMD) office in Bhopal has issued a weather report for the final week of April, highlighting a challenging combination of heatwave and thunderstorm conditions in Madhya Pradesh. Various atmospheric systems, including a western disturbance and cyclonic circulations, are active over the region, leading to volatile weather. Thunderstorms and gusty winds are predicted in multiple districts from April 27 to April 30, while intense heatwave conditions persist in certain areas.
Temperatures have soared in Khajuraho and Ratlam, reaching 45 degrees Celsius, with record-breaking heatwave conditions observed in Bhopal. As a result, the District Education Officer has announced a school holiday for students up to Class 8 until April 30. Residents in Indore and Ujjain are advised to prepare for warm nights, with high temperatures expected even after sunset. The forecast indicates a shift towards more turbulent weather later in the week, with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds forecasted in various regions.
By April 30, storm conditions are expected to extend to Bhopal, Gwalior, and Sagar. To address the risks associated with these extreme conditions, the department has issued safety and agricultural guidelines. Citizens are urged to stay hydrated and avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours. During lightning periods, it is crucial to stay indoors, close all windows and doors, and steer clear of vulnerable areas. For farmers, light irrigation is recommended to maintain soil moisture, with cautions against applying fertilizers or pesticides during the hottest times of the day. Livestock should be housed in well-ventilated shelters with access to clean water to prevent heat stress.
