Indian filmmaker Imtiaz Ali shared insights about his upcoming movie ‘Main Vapas Aaunga’ during promotional activities. The film, featuring Diljit Dosanjh in the lead role, is Imtiaz’s second collaboration with the actor. Set in the post-Partition era, the movie delves into the aftermath of the largest mass migration in history, resulting in the separation of Pakistan from India and the displacement of millions of people.

Imtiaz Ali discussed the meticulous approach taken in creating the film’s visual elements. He emphasized the use of specific lensing styles and production design techniques to evoke the essence of 1947. The director highlighted the attention to detail in casting actors with faces reminiscent of the era and meticulously styling them to reflect the fashion and aesthetics of Punjab in the 1940s.

During the research phase, the team made intriguing discoveries that influenced the film’s narrative and aesthetics. Imtiaz Ali revealed that historical findings, such as the Western influence on society at the time, inspired the film’s portrayal of music, fashion, and color schemes. The team delved into authentic dye colors and clothing styles from the period to ensure a faithful representation of the era, enhancing the overall authenticity of the movie.

Imtiaz Ali also discussed the innovative techniques employed in cinematography to blend past and present elements seamlessly. By utilizing unique lenses, filters, and color grading, the film aims to capture the essence of memory and transport viewers back to the post-Partition era. ‘Main Vapas Aaunga’, produced by Applause Entertainment and Window Seat Films, is scheduled for a theatrical release on June 12, 2026.
