The Income Tax Department officials initiated raid and search operations at Miraj Shah’s residence in Kolkata. Shah was one of the four proposers for Mamata Banerjee’s nomination as the Trinamool Congress candidate from the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency. Mamata Banerjee had selected proposers from diverse linguistic backgrounds for her nomination.
A team of Income Tax officials, accompanied by central armed police forces, arrived at Shah’s residence on Elgin Road. Shah, a trustee board member of Bhabanipur Education Society College, is considered politically influential in his area. The raid is reportedly linked to an illegal-land grabbing-related money laundering case.
Simultaneously, the Enforcement Directorate officials are conducting similar operations in and around Kolkata in connection with the same case. This development has sparked a political controversy, with the Trinamool Congress criticizing it as the BJP’s vendetta politics.
