Income-Tax Department officials carried out simultaneous raids at various locations associated with a well-known businessman in Raxaul, Bihar. The raids are currently ongoing in Raxaul, East Champaran district, amidst severe cold weather and dense fog in the state. Despite the challenging conditions, the Income Tax teams arrived in the town with a convoy of over a dozen vehicles and initiated coordinated search operations.
Sources indicate that the raids are focused on multiple establishments linked to businessman Mohammad Kaleem. These include his ancestral residence in Bishnupurwa village of Adapur block, a business establishment near Pankaj Chowk on Raxaul Main Road, as well as a jewellery showroom and an automobile showroom in Laxmipur. Prior to commencing the searches early in the morning, Income Tax officials secured all the locations.
Teams have begun the process of examining documents, reviewing financial records, and interviewing individuals present at the sites. The news of these raids has caused concern and speculation in the city, leading to discussions dominating both public and business circles. The sudden enforcement has garnered significant attention in the border town.
The Income Tax Department’s investigation is currently in progress, with officials maintaining strict confidentiality and refraining from making any official statements about the probe’s nature. The reasons behind the raids and any alleged tax irregularities will likely be clarified once the investigation is completed. Earlier, on January 8, the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Patna Zonal Office, conducted extensive searches related to a fake government job scam involving an organised gang that deceived job seekers by offering fake appointments in government departments.
