Bilateral trade between India and Africa hit $93.69 billion in 2025–26, marking a 14.39% increase from the previous year. India’s exports to Africa totaled $45.42 billion, while imports amounted to $48.27 billion during the same period.
Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal highlighted the potential for India and Africa to shape a more inclusive, resilient, and innovation-driven future for the Global South. He emphasized the importance of strengthening trade ties and aligning standards and customs procedures to foster growth for businesses on both sides.
Goyal underscored the economic opportunities arising from collaboration between India and Africa, pointing to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) valued at nearly $3.4 trillion and India’s expanding $4 trillion economy. He stressed the need to move towards higher-value manufacturing, technology transfer, and youth-driven growth for enhanced cooperation.
The minister outlined key sectors for future collaboration between India and Africa, including agriculture, digital infrastructure, healthcare, renewable energy, manufacturing, defense production, and emerging technologies. He called for a shift towards higher-value products, integrated supply chains, local manufacturing, and technology-driven partnerships in the next phase of the India-Africa partnership.
The India-Africa Business Dialogue (IABD) and Exhibition aim to strengthen economic and strategic engagement through increased trade, investment, technology partnerships, and people-to-people collaboration.
