External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Indonesian counterpart Sugiono co-chaired the 8th Indonesia–India Joint Commission Meeting in New Delhi. Discussions focused on key priorities within the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Sugiono expressed anticipation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Indonesia.
During the meeting, both ministers highlighted various areas of cooperation, including trade, maritime security, digital connectivity, infrastructure, health, and people-to-people ties. EAM Jaishankar emphasized the significant growth in the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations.
The discussions also covered political, defense, security, maritime, trade, fintech, health, pharmaceuticals, tourism, education, and cultural cooperation. The ministers also addressed regional developments, multilateral coordination, and the strengthening of India-ASEAN ties.
The Joint Commission Mechanism (JCM) was established at the Foreign Ministers’ level following a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in January 2001. Earlier interactions between the two countries have focused on reviewing progress on the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and ASEAN cooperation.
