India and the United States are working towards finalizing a bilateral trade agreement, aiming to enhance economic opportunities and strengthen economic ties. US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor mentioned the positive developments as US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer arrived in India for crucial trade discussions with Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal.
The ongoing negotiations between India and the US on the proposed bilateral trade agreement have reached a critical juncture. Greer is set to engage in multiple rounds of talks with Minister Goyal to shape the framework for the initial phase of the trade deal.
Both countries are focused on advancing the proposed agreement, with several meetings planned between Greer and Goyal. The discussions are part of efforts to finalize an interim trade arrangement that could pave the way for a broader bilateral trade pact.
Minister Goyal has expressed optimism about resolving outstanding issues with the US and anticipates concluding the first phase of the agreement by the middle of the following month. These negotiations are particularly significant as the temporary 10% tariff imposed by the US on its trading partners is set to expire on July 24.
