Large parts of India are currently facing severe summer conditions, as per the India Meteorological Department’s predictions. Heatwave conditions are expected to persist in northern, central, and eastern states like Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and others. The IMD warns that these conditions may worsen in the coming days.
Coastal and southern regions such as Konkan, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh are expected to experience hot and humid weather. Additionally, warm nights are anticipated in isolated areas of Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Odisha until April 25, providing little relief from the daytime heat. In New Delhi, temperatures are set to rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius in the next few days, with daytime temperatures remaining above normal.
The IMD forecasts a gradual increase in maximum temperatures across northwest and central India, indicating a prolonged period of intense summer weather. Despite the heat, some regions are likely to receive rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. Parts of northwest India and northeastern regions are expected to witness light to moderate rain or snowfall, along with lightning and gusty winds. The weather office has also advised caution to fishermen along the coasts of Odisha and West Bengal due to rough weather expected on April 26 and 27.
