India showcased a dominant performance at the Dubai 2026 Grand Prix- Fazza International Athletics Championships, securing the top spot on the medals table with a total of 43 medals, including 16 gold, 13 silver, and 14 bronze. Colombia and Kenya followed closely with 11 and 6 gold medals each from their overall 20 medals, while the UAE secured 6 gold medals out of 31 at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix.
The Indian athletes, gearing up to host the next WPA Grand Prix in New Delhi, kicked off the season with confidence at the Dubai Club for People of Determination grounds. Notable victories included two-time Paralympic champion Sumit Antil’s gold in men’s javelin F64 and Paris 2024 gold medalists Navdeep and Dharambir Nain starting the season with wins in their respective events.
Preeti Pal, a double bronze medallist at Paris 2024, continued her success by clinching gold and bronze in women’s 100m and 200m T35 events, reaffirming her consistency. Expressing her ambitions, she stated, “My goal is to improve my personal best and win as many gold medals as possible for India. This is just the beginning. I want to achieve more for India.”
Among the standout performances was Bhagyashri M. Jadhav’s emotional victory in the women’s shot put and javelin F34 category, marking a significant comeback after years of dedication. Jadhav expressed her determination, saying, “Winning two golds was a huge motivation. I will carry this confidence forward and aim to win gold at the World Championship next year.”
The championships in Dubai not only highlighted India’s podium success but also showcased the depth of talent in Indian Para athletics, emphasizing the team’s ability to perform consistently under pressure.
