India’s clean industrial investment pipeline has surged to approximately $433.07 billion, positioning the country as the world’s third-largest center for clean industrial projects. According to the latest Global Project Tracker by Mission Possible Partnership, India now ranks third globally in the number of clean industrial projects, following China and the United States.
The pipeline encompasses 65 projects spread across four sectors and 11 states, focusing on clean fuels, chemicals, and low-carbon manufacturing. This growth underscores India’s increasing significance in the global energy transition, with the clean industrial pipeline expanding by about 30% in the last six months.
Green ammonia leads the projects with 49 initiatives, signaling a shift towards sustainable aviation fuel, green methanol, and low-carbon aluminum. Notable states hosting these projects include Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh.
Major projects highlighted in the report include developments by AM Green in Kakinada, ACME’s green ammonia project in Odisha, Indian Oil’s SAF initiatives, NTPC’s proposals in Pudimadaka, and Vedanta’s low-carbon aluminum operations in Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
The report emphasizes a global trend towards clean industrial projects, with countries aiming to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and transition to resilient manufacturing ecosystems powered by renewable energy sources. It notes that final investment decisions for clean industrial projects are accelerating, with China leading deployment and India emerging as part of a new group of renewable energy-rich economies.
