Fresh from their ODI World Cup victory earlier this year, India is gearing up for the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup with hopes of clinching their first-ever T20 world title. The tournament journey begins against Pakistan on June 14 in Birmingham, followed by matches against the Netherlands, South Africa, Bangladesh, and Australia in Group A.
India’s captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, is on the verge of a significant milestone as she is set to make her 200th T20 International appearance. With 196 caps to her name, she needs just four more matches to become the first player in men’s or women’s cricket to achieve this feat. Notably, Harmanpreet made her T20I debut during the inaugural Women’s T20 World Cup in England in 2009.
Apart from the potential T20I milestone, Harmanpreet will also mark her 10th appearance at a Women’s T20 World Cup, joining a select group of seven players who have featured in every edition of the competition since its inception. This elite club includes players like Ellyse Perry, Chamari Athapaththu, and Stafanie Taylor.
Deepti Sharma, India’s premier all-rounder, is eyeing a historic milestone of 200 T20 International wickets, aiming to become the first woman in history to achieve this feat. Deepti holds the record for the most wickets in women’s T20Is and remains a crucial player for India in the upcoming global tournament.
With a remarkable record of over 1000 T20 International runs and 150 wickets, Deepti is the only cricketer, male or female, to achieve this double. As she gears up for the World Cup, Deepti aims to further solidify her position and edge closer to the coveted 200-wicket mark.
As India prepares for the Women’s T20 World Cup, the team’s primary goal remains clinching their first title in the tournament’s history. Despite consistently reaching the latter stages of the competition, including a finals appearance in 2020, India is yet to secure the T20 World Cup crown. Building on their recent ODI World Cup success, the team led by standout performers like Jemimah Rodrigues and Smriti Mandhana is determined to combine individual brilliance with team success and claim the ultimate prize.
