India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, took a break to spend quality time with his family. He watched his elder daughter, Aazeen, play tennis at the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association. Gambhir expressed his joy at being able to relax and enjoy the match without the usual stress of coaching.
After the recent conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2026, Gambhir had some time off as Indian players headed to the Indian Premier League. Following the IPL’s conclusion, with Royal Challengers Bengaluru winning the title, the focus now shifts to national duty. Team India is gearing up to face Afghanistan in a one-off four-day Test starting on June 6.
Gambhir will also join the squad as they head to New Chandigarh for the red-ball game. The teams will then compete in three ODIs starting from June 13, as part of their preparations for the upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup scheduled for next year.
In the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, who has been rested for workload management, senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are gearing up for the ODI series. Their participation, especially that of Rohit and Hardik Pandya, is subject to fitness clearance from the BCCI.
