India has emerged as a frontrunner in adopting agentic Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Asia-Pacific region, transitioning rapidly from experimental phases to practical implementation, as per a Tech Wire Asia report. Among organizations globally exploring agentic AI strategies, 97% are in the process, with varying adoption rates across regions. Notably, India leads in the APAC region with the highest number of ‘expert’ users of agentic AI, while countries like Australia and Japan are still in the intermediate phase, moving projects from pilots to full-scale deployment.
India is also a global leader in reaping benefits from agentic AI in IT development and productivity, with 50% of respondents reporting tangible gains from applications like code generation and workflow automation. On the other hand, Japan excels in operational efficiency gains at 37%, showcasing a different yet significant benefit profile. Worldwide, nearly half of enterprises have transitioned more than 50% of their agentic AI projects from pilot phases to enterprise-wide production, with India and Brazil leading in transition rates, indicating strong organizational readiness for live AI deployments.
The report also highlights a growing confidence in AI systems, with approximately 70% of respondents globally expressing moderate to high trust in autonomous AI agents, a substantial increase from the previous year. India, once again, leads the region with ‘high trust’ being the prevalent sentiment, indicating a greater willingness to deploy AI in critical functions. Challenges to AI implementation include legacy systems, integration issues, and internal skill shortages, with 40% of respondents citing these as key barriers and 38% experiencing project stalls due to constraints.
In Japan, 44% of respondents identify a lack of internal skills as a major obstacle. Governance is another concern, with only 36% of organizations globally having a centralized framework for managing agentic AI projects, according to the report.
