The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that India is closely monitoring the situation in West Asia and maintaining communication with countries in the region. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal mentioned that India is coordinating with Iranian authorities to safeguard Indian nationals in Iran and ensure the safe passage of Indian vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.
India’s engagement in the Gulf region includes visits by top officials like the National Security Advisor, External Affairs Minister, and Minister of Petroleum to countries like Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Qatar. These interactions aim to address various mutual concerns such as energy security and the welfare of the diaspora.
National Security Advisor Ajit Doval recently visited Riyadh to bolster bilateral ties, enhance energy cooperation, and discuss regional developments. The meetings with Saudi leaders emphasized the deepening strategic partnership between India and Saudi Arabia amid evolving geopolitical scenarios.
In response to the recent shooting incident involving Indian ships in the Strait of Hormuz, India expressed its concerns to Iranian authorities. The MEA conveyed the importance of ensuring the safety of merchant ships and mariners, urging Iran to resume facilitating the safe passage of India-bound vessels promptly.
