India’s left-handed opener, Abhishek Sharma, may miss the upcoming T20 World Cup match against Namibia due to a stomach infection. Sharma, 25, was hospitalized in New Delhi and is currently under medical observation after missing a training session at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate confirmed Sharma’s illness in a press conference.
The Indian team management is awaiting the doctor’s report to determine Sharma’s availability for the match against Namibia on Thursday. Sharma, who played in the opening game against USA with a high fever, had to sit out the fielding due to a stomach bug. The team is cautious about rushing his return, especially with important matches against Pakistan and Netherlands approaching.
Sharma’s absence could pave the way for Sanju Samson to partner with Ishan Kishan at the top of the batting order. Samson, who struggled as an opener in the recent series against New Zealand, practiced alongside Kishan in preparation for the upcoming match. India will have another practice session before the game against Namibia on Thursday.
