Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda reiterated India’s dedication to equitable healthcare, digital innovation, and international collaboration at the 79th World Health Assembly in Geneva. India showcased its health initiatives at the Assembly themed “Reshaping Global Health: A Shared Responsibility.” Nadda emphasized India’s progress towards Universal Health Coverage through comprehensive primary healthcare services.
India’s approach is centered on people-centric policies that ensure access to quality and affordable healthcare for all. The country has operationalized over 1,85,000 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, offering preventive care and treatment at the community level. Nadda highlighted the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, which has created over 880 million unique digital health identities to enhance the national digital health ecosystem.
The Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, India’s public health assurance scheme, provides financial protection to nearly 600 million vulnerable beneficiaries. Nadda also discussed India’s pandemic preparedness measures and efforts to strengthen public health infrastructure. He emphasized responsible innovation in Artificial Intelligence in healthcare and India’s role as the “Pharmacy of the World” during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nadda urged global health solidarity and emphasized the need to translate shared responsibility into tangible outcomes. India’s active participation at the Assembly showcases its emerging leadership in shaping a more inclusive and resilient global health framework.
