India’s Ambassador to Israel, J P Singh, met with Israeli President Isaac Herzog during an event celebrating Israel’s 78th Independence Day. Singh conveyed warm greetings from India’s leadership and reaffirmed New Delhi’s dedication to enhancing the Special Strategic Partnership between the two countries. President Droupadi Murmu also extended wishes to Herzog, emphasizing the continuous growth of the Special Strategic Partnership.
President Herzog expressed appreciation for the special friendship between Israel and India, highlighting a shared commitment to strengthen cooperation across various sectors. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar engaged in a telephonic discussion with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, addressing topics such as the West Asia situation and the importance of preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Sa’ar stressed the significance of the US’ firm stance in negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear capabilities for the international community.
The conversation also touched upon Iran’s impact on freedom of navigation and the global economy through actions in the Strait of Hormuz. The Strait of Hormuz, a vital oil transit route, plays a crucial role in global oil shipments. These discussions occurred against the backdrop of heightened security tensions in West Asia following unsuccessful negotiations between the US and Iran.
