India secured a 96-run victory over New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium to successfully defend their ICC T20 World Cup title. The Men in Blue showcased exceptional form throughout the tournament, winning 48 out of their last 56 T20I matches since October 2023. Their journey to victory included a series of impressive wins, culminating in a masterclass performance in the final.

The team’s campaign was marked by consistent success, with seven wins out of eight matches leading them to the final. Starting with a 29-run victory against the United States, India displayed dominance in each game, including notable wins against Namibia, Pakistan, and the Netherlands. Despite a single defeat to South Africa, the team bounced back strongly to secure wins against Zimbabwe, West Indies, and England in the semi-finals.

India’s triumph in the final not only secured their second consecutive T20 World Cup title but also marked several historic milestones. They became the first team in history to successfully defend the T20 World Cup, solidifying their position as a powerhouse in the format. Additionally, their victory on home soil in Ahmedabad made them the first men’s team to achieve this feat, breaking a long-standing trend of host nations falling short in the tournament.

With this win, India also became the first nation to clinch the Men’s T20 World Cup three times, establishing a new benchmark in the history of the tournament. Their journey from the inaugural 2007 victory to the unprecedented treble in 2026 showcases their dominance and cements their status as a cricketing dynasty.
